07/11/17 CAGTC: House FY18 THUD Text Released, Markup Tonight at 7pm

CAGTC Members,

Last night, the House Appropriations Committee released their draft transportation, housing and urban development (THUD) appropriations bill for fiscal year 2018 (FY18). The $56.5 billion proposal includes $17.8 billion in discretionary appropriations for the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT). This is $646 million below fiscal year 2017’s enacted level but $1.5 billion above President Trump’s budget request.

The bill does not include funding for the TIGER program. This is not unusual, prior to fiscal year 2015 TIGER was omitted from House THUD bills and only funded as a result of Conference negotiations with the Senate. While President Trump has also requested that TIGER be zeroed out, the trade press is still predicting that the Senate will include funding for the popular program in their bill.

The House THUD Appropriations Subcommittee will hold a markup of the bill today at 7pm Eastern, or after the conclusion of votes, in 2358-A Rayburn. After the bill is reported by the Subcommittee, it will be eligible for consideration by the full Appropriations Committee and then could move to the House floor. Text of this bill can be found here and a press release with a summary from the House Committee on Appropriations can be found here.

A THUD Appropriations bill has not yet been introduced in the Senate. CAGTC will continue to monitor for relevant text and will keep Members updated as the process moves along.

Thank you,
