Details: San Diego’s Working Waterfront is a vital economic engine for the region and the State of California, and home to some of San Diego’s most historic and culturally vibrant communities. This stretch of industrial urban waterfront contains the Port of San Diego’s National City Marine Terminal and Tenth Avenue Marine Terminals, Naval Base San Diego, several shipbuilding and commercial facilities, and the Portside communities of Barrio Logan and National City.
These critical locations are connected by Harbor Drive, a regional surface arterial that must accommodate personal vehicles, freight traffic, freight and light rail, bicycle and pedestrian use. In 2019, a new plan was developed for an integrated, regional approach to infrastructure upgrades along the corridor that would benefit all facility users as well as the community and stakeholders that relied on Harbor Drive. The result was Harbor Drive 2.0, a regional vision for a connected, flexible multi-modal transportation asset along San Diego Bay.
The Port of San Diego, the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the region’s MPO, the San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) have partnered to advance the project to implementation. This webinar will discuss their multi-agency and multi-jurisdictional process of developing the project, the collaboration between the lead agencies to share project phase and funding responsibilities, and a forward-look to implementation.
