11/08/18 CAGTC: 2018 Midterm Results from Freight’s Perspective

CAGTC Members,

With another day under our belts and the counting ongoing in many districts, we have a few election updates for you:

The House of Representatives:

  • Congressman Denham (R-CA): current Chairman of the House T&I Railroad, Pipelines, and Hazardous Materials Subcommittee, is still in a very close race in California. The votes remain with Congressman Denham leading at 50.6% over Democrat Josh Harder’s 49.4% but the race has not yet been called.
  • Congressman Rob Woodall (R-GA): yesterday, it was reported that House T&I member Rep. Woodall would lose his re-election bid but, as more ballots have been counted, he is now in the lead with 50.2% of the votes compared to Democrat Carolyn Bourdeaux’s 49.8%. But the race has not yet been called.

The Senate:

  • Senator Bill Nelson (D-FL), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, is in a close race against current Governor Rick Scott (R). Senator Nelson is still trailing by around 0.4%. He has called for a vote recount. Florida law requires a recount if the final margin is less than 0.5%. However, the initial count will not be finalized by the state until noon on Saturday.
  • Senator Jon Tester (D-MT): yesterday morning, it appeared that Senator Tester, a current member of the Senate Commerce Committee, was going to lose his bid for re-election but it appears those predictions were wrong. News outlets now have Tester as the projected winner with 50.1% of the votes over Republican candidate Matt Rosendale’s 47.1%; Rosendale called Tester last night to congratulate him.

Thank you!

Katie
