09/06/18 CAGTC: Seeking Volunteers for Reauthorization Working Group

CAGTC Members,

Though it feels like just yesterday we were walking the halls of Congress advocating for freight’s inclusion in the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation (FAST) Act, in reality we are approaching the end of the law’s duration. Signed into law in 2015, the FAST Act authorized spending through December of 2020. It is likely that much of the foundational work for reauthorization will begin with the start of the 116th Congress in January 2019. Many Members of Congress have stated a preference for passing a reauthorization law early in 2020 so as to avoid these important discussions coinciding with the 2020 elections.

CAGTC is seeking volunteers for a Reauthorization Working Group to draft priorities and specific Congressional asks. We hope to have a wide variety of CAGTC members participate to glean how FAST Act implementation has been working from your organization or region’s perspective and how existing law can be improved. Once the Reauthorization Working Group has completed its work, the draft recommendations will be presented to the CAGTC Board of Directors and then the full Membership. We plan to have a new reauthorization platform completed in time to hit the ground running when the 116th Congress begins in January.

If you would like to join the Reauthorization Working Group, please email me by Monday, September 17, 2018. Participation in this group is open to CAGTC members as well as their federal representatives. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact me.

Thank you,
