01/19/18 CAGTC: 2017 Port Performance Freight Statistics Program Report Released

CAGTC Members,

Today, the Bureau of Transportation Statistics (BTS) released its second annual Port Performance Freight Statistics Program: Annual Report to Congress. The Port Performance Freight Statistics Program (PPFSP) was required by 2015’s FAST Act and is tasked with providing consistent measures of performance at the largest U.S. ports. The report features details about the top 25 U.S. ports, measured by tonnage, twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) and dry bulk tonnage. Between these three lists a total of 49 ports were identified through detailed throughput and capacity measures. The report also discusses potentially disruptive changes or events occurring in the system, like the advent of larger container vessels, changes in coal, crude oil and natural gas volumes, and the 2017 hurricane season.

BTS is accepting comments on the report, to be submitted to PortStatistics@dot.gov. You can read the full report online here. An announcement from USDOT on the availability of the report is here.

Thank you,
