07/25/17 CAGTC: Senate THUD bill includes $550m for TIGER

CAGTC Members,

The Senate Transportation, Housing and Urban Development, and Related Appropriations Subcommittee approved draft legislation today to fund the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) for fiscal year 2018 (FY18). While the text of the bill is not yet public, the Senate Appropriations Committee released a summary of the bill, which can be found here. The Senate’s bill appropriates $19.47 billion for USDOT in FY18. This is greater than the $17.8 billion the House requested in their FY18 THUD bill and the $18.49 billion in enacted appropriations that USDOT saw for FY17.

As expected, the bill includes funding for the TIGER program. While the House’s bill zeroed out the program, the Senate version contains $550 million for TIGER, $50 million above the $500 million appropriated for FY17.

The full Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to hold a markup this bill on Thursday, July 27 at 10:30am in 106 Dirksen.

The House THUD bill was reported favorably by the full House Appropriations Committee on July 17. It was officially introduced in the House on July 21 as H.R. 3353 and has been placed on the Union Calendar for potential consideration on the House floor.

CAGTC will continue to monitor this process and will keep Members updated.

Thank you,
