10/25/17 CAGTC: USDOT Releases Full FY17 FASTLANE Applicant List & Reopens Interim NMFN Comment Period

CAGTC Members,

Two developments to inform you about today: USDOT has released the full list of applicants for the FY2017 FASTLANE grants. The list includes all applicants, large and small, despite USDOT’s decision to only release the funds for the small project set aside earlier this year. You can find the full list online here.

Second, USDOT has announced it is reopening the comment period for the Interim National Multimodal Freight Network (NMFN) in response to input from stakeholders that the original period did not provide enough time for the submission of relevant comments. The federal register notice requesting comments can be found here. The map itself can be found here. Comments on the Interim NMFN are due by February 22, 2018 at Docket Number DOT-OST-2016-0053.

As a reminder, the Interim NMFN was originally published in June 2016 and comments were due by September 6, 2016. CAGTC submitted comments during the first open comment period, attached, and all previously submitted comment can still be found under the same docket.

Once finalized, the NMFN will be used to assist States in strategically directing resources towards improved system performance for the efficient movement of freight, inform freight transportation planning, assist in the prioritization of Federal investment, and assess and support Federal investments to achieve national multimodal freight policy goals and national highway freight program goals outlined in the FAST Act.
